DNA/RNA supplementation has been widely panned by medical science.
Since there is no proof, only speculation, to support claims for DNA/RNA, many people are simply listening to proponents in the supplement industry. Makers of supplements have been infusing everything from nutritional supplements to face creams with these life-giving molecules and marketing the nucleic acids through health food stores. Not surprisingly, they often claim miraculous results.
The bottom line from experts, however, is that we need much more research before we can justify using them in anything. |
Babies and Diabetes
The two groups of people who probably benefit most from inositol supplementation are babies born prematurely and people with diabetes, although neither pregnant women nor anyone with diabetes should take supplements without a doctor's supervision.
Babies need inositol, and Mother Nature enabled human moms to supply it, says Dr. Holub. Mother's milk contains 100 to 200 milligrams of inositol per quart, he says. But mothers who are bottle-feeding their babies should check with their doctors about the inositol count in the formula they use, says Dr. |
But if you eat a raw diet for longer than that, you may be at risk of a B12 deficiency and should talk to your doctor about testing, dietary management or supplementation, says Dr. Martin.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding also increase your need for B12. And since a B12 deficiency can have serious consequences for your baby's future health, your doctor may recommend dietary changes or a supplement to make sure you're getting enough.
Focus on Fiber
Another advantage of a raw diet is that it's loaded with fiber. |

Those who have difficulty processing fats and utilizing these EFAs, can benefit from borage or evening primrose oil supplementation. Most people do not get enough omega-3 EFAs from the foods they eat. By the way, many people do better with fish oils.
Omega-3 and -6 oils are incorporated into the cell membrane, and cell membranes are responsible for transporting nutrients. When the membranes contain a balance of these oils, they are much more flexible than if formed from animal fatty acids, saturated fats, cholesterol, trans-fatty acids, or excessive omega-6's. |
Doctors observed some improvements in 12 patients taking B12 supplementation (Shemesh et al, 1993).
• A controlled clinical trial of patients with persistent tinnitus compared Western medicine (WM) with traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). Control subjects received a prescribed oral WM (Valium, nicotinic acid, vitamin B, Lidocaine, etc.), and WM-TCM patients received the same medication along with TCM herbs. The effectiveness of the WM treatments significantly increased with concomitant TCM treatment (Yang DJ, 1989). |

Specifically, some believe that many cases of heart failure and cardiomyopathy (disease of the heart muscle) are the direct result of a deficiency of coQ10 and that supplementation can both prevent and treat these ailments. These researchers point to several studies to reinforce their point.
In one Italian multicenter study, 2,664 people with heart failure were given between 50 and 150 milligrams of coQ10 every day for three months. Researchers found that their symptoms improved in a wide range of areas, including insomnia, enlargement of the liver, breathing trouble and heart palpitations. |
For optimal stress resistance, experts recommend getting 10,000 international units of beta-carotene, at least 500 milligrams of vitamin C and up to 400 international units of vitamin E daily through a combination of food and supplementation.
Good food sources of vitamin C include citrus fruits, tomatoes and red bell peppers. Wheat germ, almonds and vegetable oils are rich in vitamin E, and carrots, broccoli and sweet potatoes are beta-carotene boosters.

VITAMIN K: An Essential Building Block
"A strong case can be made that vitamin K deficiency is one of the factors contributing to the development of osteoporosis and that vitamin K supplementation may be of value in preventing or possibly reversing bone loss," says Dr. Gaby. That's because vitamin K is necessary for the production of osteocalcin, a protein that functions as a foundation for calcium to construct bone.
The best food source of this nutrient is dark green, leafy vegetables. As added insurance, says Dr. |

Vitamins for Heart Health

The effectiveness of brahmi is increased by simultaneous supplementation with inositol and/or a B-vitamin complex. For best results, adults should take 3,000 milligrams one or twice daily. It may take four weeks to see an improvement. Brahmi is best taken at the beginning of the day and again in mid to late afternoon, or before doing meditation or yoga.

Protein digestion can be improved with herbal medicines, hydrochloric acid, or proteolytic enzyme supplementation.
Even though animal products seem ideal as a source of protein, there are some very important considerations. Animal protein sources are more concentrated and contain higher levels of toxins than vegetable proteins, resulting in more work for the liver and kidneys. There is much more protein in a gram of meat than in a gram of vegetable matter, resulting in a higher concentration of nitrogen for the kidneys to process in a typical meal. |
Additionally, some patients may have hydrochloric acid levels that are so low they require direct HC1 supplementation. This is especially true with patients over the age of 60. Finally, there are times when none of the usual theories help. In these cases I use vilwa fruit, which can sometimes work wonders, very slowly.
In severe cases following a very restricted diet, such as "The Elemental Diet" (very low carbohydrates) can be helpful. Some authorities allow only lamb and pears for a few weeks.
I recommend initiating the following measures immediately to help to control the problem. |

The results were amazing: Researchers recommended that potassium supplementation should be considered as a tool for the prevention and treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure).76
Inexpensive, over-the-counter tablets could control high blood pressure. Not only that. The research showed that even a small amount of potassium could prevent the onset of high blood pressure. Larger supplements, the researchers said, ought to be considered as a treatment for hypertension, especially among those unable to cut their salt intake (which often contributes to high blood pressure). |

In addition, there may be instances when supplementation with curcumin is also appropriate.

Many studies of the diabetic have shown that supplementation of the diet with chromium will decrease fasting blood sugar levels, improve glucose tolerance, lower insulin levels, and decrease total cholesterol and fat levels, while increasing HDL cholesterol.9 Chromium deficiency may be the primary underlying factor contributing to the large number of Americans who suffer with blood sugar problems, both diabetes and hypoglycemia. Evidence is overwhelming that there is a significant chromium insufficiency in the United States. |

Our recommendations for preventing cataracts are simply to implement an antioxidant supplementation program and stick with it. There are no short-term treatments. Cataracts take years to develop, usually in a person's fifties and sixties, so you need to be taking preventive measures for years before a problem has a chance to develop. That program should include the standards: vitamin C, vitamin E, selenium, and Pycnogenol or grape seed extract. Melatonin is also recommended to slow the effects of aging and promote better health into old age. |
