I'm taking nutritional supplements all the time. I grow my own food, eat out of my own garden, pick my own culinary spices and eat them fresh and raw. I don't eat chicken, pork or red meat. I don't eat dairy products. That means no cheese, milk, or yogurt. I don't eat refined sugar or drink soft drinks. I don't eat anything made out of white flour or anything that contains hydrogenated oils, MSG or sodium nitrite. You think that has anything to do with it?
I know I'm sounding more cynical than usual, but I just want to get the point across. I'm frustrated with conventional medicine. |

The real reason why this calcium study was fraudulently designed
Like many studies on nutritional supplements, this study was designed from the start to discredit calcium and function as a propaganda tool in support of osteoporosis drugs. The entire effort is more about promoting a political agenda (boosting drug sales) than genuine health. The study was dishonestly constructed, unscrupulously reported, and ignorantly parroted by health and science reporters (who apparently understand neither health nor science) across the globe. |

So in the future, instead of declaring one particular herb to be useless (after ginning up some meta-data study that mysteriously excludes all the legitimate studies showing the herb to be effective), top medical journals, research scientists and even the FDA will just issue the blanket statement, "All nutritional supplements are no good for anything, trust us."
In a related decision, the same group is said to be close to announcing that, "All prescription drugs are safe and effective at treating everything! |

The first camp consists of people who are honest, have integrity and make a genuine effort to purchase authentic hoodia and provide the real thing to their customers through their nutritional supplements. Two companies that I know are doing this come to mind right away: One is Hoodoba, another is Desert Burn.
I'm sure there are others out there, but these are the ones I am most familiar with, and I've spoken with these people at length and have seen test results of their products, and I believe that these people are working diligently to provide honest products. |

I would have the taxpayers pay for nutritional supplements for all pregnant women because we would save billions of dollars in long-term health care costs by spending PENNIES on nutrition for each expectant mother. I would have some pretty radical ideas that would definitely disturb the status quo. Not surprisingly, we'd end up with a generation of people who are actually healthy.
Wow, imagine that for a change. Drug companies would go out of business. And that's why they can't let it happen. |

Things are so terrible out there with hoodia and all the counterfeit products on the market that it is discrediting the entire nutritional supplements industry, which is very frustrating for me to see. That's one of the main reasons I am pursuing the truth on this subject.
Now, the truth can often be a difficult thing to come by, and just when you think you've found it, sometimes you're presented with evidence showing you that it isn't the truth after all. The truth is a journey, not a destination, and that is especially the case with the hoodia industry. |

Manufacturers of aged garlic nutritional supplements, which actually lower cholesterol more powerfully than prescription drugs, cannot claim any health benefits whatsoever without being raided by the FDA and having their inventory confiscated. But a sugary breakfast cereal, somehow, can make health claims that seem to ignore the fact that the product is made with at least three different forms of sugar. As listed on the ingredients label: sugar, honey and brown sugar syrup. It's four if you count the modified corn starch. |

Of course, we frequently hear about other interesting nutritional supplements that have worked for a few women but have no scientific evidence to support or refute their effectiveness. If they are otherwise safe, we see no harm in experimenting.
/ can't help but wonder why most doctors do not treat hot flashes and night sweats with bioflavonoids. As a retired registered nurse, I have found that daily use of bioflavonoids will relieve both the hot flashes and the night sweats. It saves the worry of cancer threats from hormones and is much less expensive. |

REPPED: All nutritional supplements have recently been found to be no good for anything. This is according to the latest research from all scientists, reported by all members of the mainstream media. The conclusions have been offered as a way to make scientific reporting more "time efficient," because discrediting herbs one at a time was taking too long. |

The Physiological Effects of Dietary Fiber
It is beyond the scope of this chapter to detail all the known effects of dietary fiber on humans. Instead, we will concentrate on the effects of greatest significance: stool weight and transit time, digestion, lipid metabolism, short-chain fatty acids (SCFA), and intestinal bacterial flora. We will also review a selection of diseases that are highly correlated with lack of dietary fiber, namely, colon diseases, obesity, and diabetes. |

These are the kinds of words that the medical industry always warns people against believing in the nutritional supplements industry. The medical industry says that when anybody says something is a "miracle" or a "cure," it's a red flag, and it should be avoided. And yet pushers of conventional medicine are now using these very same terms to describe their own drug.
But what's the truth about Herceptin? Is it really a miracle-class breast cancer drug? Is it the most amazing pharmaceutical breakthrough in a quarter century, as is being claimed by some people out there?

Clinical trial participants showed a remarkable 54.5 point drop in blood sugar levels in six weeks of taking the supplement. |

This is an agency that has attempted again and again to discredit Chinese medicine, nutritional supplements, herbal medicine and anything that would compete with prescription drugs. It has sought to outlaw these natural substances and herbs that have been proven healers for literally 2,000 years in the history of medicine. This is the FDA that has put drug profits first, and public safety last, time and time again.

Using a natural form of vitamins and minerals in nutritional supplements is the objective of the protein-bonding process. Taking supplements with meals helps to assure a supply of other nutrients needed for better assimilation as well.
WHAT'S ON THE SHELVES
Over-the-counter vitamin supplements come in various forms, combinations, and amounts. They are available in tablet, capsule, gel-capsule, powder, sublingual (under the tongue), lozenge, and liquid forms. They can also be administered by injection. |
Drugs such as corticosteroids and sulfasalazine (Azul-fidine), which are prescribed for inflammatory bowel diseases, and cholestyramine (Questran), which is prescribed to lower cholesterol levels, increase the need for nutritional supplements. Corticosteroids depress protein synthesis and inhibit normal calcium absorption by increasing excretion of vitamin C in the urine. Deficiencies of other nutrients, such as zinc, potassium, vitamin Bg (pyridoxine), folic acid, and vitamin D, decrease bone formation and slow healing. |

Even when the primary goal is prevention by getting adequate calcium and vitamin D together with exercise (and we strongly encourage that for everyone who can do it), the studies show that nutritional supplements are effective only if people actually take them all the time. Surprise! So consider whether you will take a pill or an injection every day, or if you're better off with once-a-week or even once-a-month therapy.

At the same time, those people need to get nutritional supplements into their bodies. They need things like sea vegetables, spirulina, chlorella (www.IntegratedHealth.com), goji berries and whole food concentrates like blueberry powder or multi-fruit superfood powders. They need things like raw chocolate (www.NavitasNaturals.com) or super foods like chia seeds (www.GoodCauseWellness.com) or ancient grains like quinoa. These are the kinds of things that people need to put into their bodies in order to reverse the underlying causes of all of these diseases. |

What is it that got you interested in this and now has you advising for nutritional supplements? You have an interesting story here.
Goodman: I think that we're just starting to realize that there is a big picture out there. You can't ignore what I consider to be complementary medicine. If we can heal ourselves and prevent disease naturally, it's so much better than taking drugs that have side effects.
When we're at medical school, what do we do? We have a course in pharmacology. We learn all about drugs. We don't have a course that spends nearly enough time on nutrition. |

REPPED: In the world of nutritional supplements, it's often the smaller, more passionate companies that are the most innovative. In this four-part series, I introduce four little-known wellness supplement companies who are on the cutting edge of modern nutritional science. I've spent many hours talking to the founders of these companies, and I am a regular customer of their products. You'll see more interviews and product reviews about them in the weeks ahead.
Each of these four gets an enthusiastic no-strings-attached recommendation from yours truly. |
Founded by Alan Friedman, a fitness enthusiast and family-oriented nutrition consumer, Good Cause Wellness not only offers some hard-to-find nutritional products that I personally use every day, they also donate 10 percent of net sales to health freedom organizations that fight for your right to buy nutritional supplements. Note that this donation is not 10 percent of profits, it's 10 percent of net sales (a much bigger number). They'll also be publicly posting those donations as proof of their commitment to supporting these important consumer advocacy organizations. |

REPPED: Here's another innovative nutritional supplements company I'm seriously impressed with. They have a unique take on supplements that delivers nutrients in the form of real food, not isolated ingredients.
We've all heard that food is the best medicine, right? And we know that plants and microorganisms are the best "translators" of raw ingredients into bioavailable forms. For example, calcium from ground seashells is not nearly as useful as calcium that's been absorbed, assimilated and molecularly transformed by a broccoli plant. |

You can also buy a variety of other nutritional supplements. There's a product available at health food stores called Berry Green. It's a whole food concentrate. It's important that you don't make the mistake of relying on isolated vitamins; eat whole food concentrates if you want to boost your antioxidant count, which will help protect you from sunburn.
Alternative food sources of vitamin D
If you can't get into a tanning booth, or don't want to, another alternative to sunlight is to find other sources of vitamin D. The best way to do that is to drink cod liver oil on a daily basis. |

Drugs are legal to prescribe for everything, but foods, herbs and nutritional supplements are approved for absolutely nothing. That's how twisted the Food and Drug Administration has really become. It all comes down to a simple three-step formula: 1) Push the drugs. 2) Discredit (or outlaw) the herbs. 3) Repeat. |

If you were to take nutritional supplements, or get nutrition through whole food concentrates, then your heart would begin to literally "shape up." It would become more firm and the posture of your heart would rapidly improve, thereby eliminating the symptoms that were previously called "mitral valve prolapse."
The answer to mitral valve prolapse is almost always nutrition, but you won't hear that from surgeons. First of all, they don't know this information. |

Codex Alimentarius explained
Mike: Let's get back to the pharmaceutical cartel and the strategies that they are using to control this information and suppress nutritional supplements. What about Codex Alimentarius? Can you introduce that whole concept?
John: The United Nations has an entity jointly run by the World Health Organization -- which is part of the UN -- and the Food and Agriculture Organization. Those two branches of the UN jointly administer this entity called the "Codex Alimentarius Commission." Codex Alimentarius is Latin for "code of law for food" or simply "food code. |
Can you explain to readers the motivation of the pharmaceutical companies, and why they want to censor information about nutritional supplements? What is in it for them to censor this information and control what people know about nutrition?
John: Well, what is in it for them is that the pharmaceutical industry is the world's No. 1 investment industry and they want to keep it that way. |
